The invisible referee
Short film, 10 min, 2024

In The Invisible Referee, two sisters reflect on their shared childhood, confronting memories of abuse, trauma and the lingering doubt about the validity of their own experiences.

What impact do our childhood experiences have on us as adults? How do we cope and adapt? What does it mean when one sister recalls her childhood in great detail, while the other has blocked them out entirely? And what purpose do psychological evaluations and diagnoses serve in understanding such trauma?

The conversation takes place in a clinic, where one of the sisters is undergoing rehab treatment at the time of filming. A handheld camera serves as a silent observer, quietly searching for answers - just as the two women do.
